history of tourismAbstract
The following review is about the book History of Tourism, written by the prestigious researcher Miguel Khatchikian and published in 2000 by the Universidad San Martín de Porres in Peru. His work treats with scientific rigor the different stages of tourism until the present time. The author elaborates his own methodological framework establishing three very different stages for the consolidation of tourism as a phenomenon: the pre-industrial era, the modern era and mass tourism. The criterion used is not social mobility or the advance of means of transport, but a combination of economic, political, social and technological factors.
