This work follows the line of the works published in 2006 (Museos, me- moria y turismo) and 2007 (Patrimonios cul- turales y museos: más allá de la Historia y del Arte), and also edited by Iñaki Arrieta Urtizberea. All these works have dealt with different social, cultural, political and economic dimensions of the museum and cultural heritage fields. The genesis of all these works is to be found in the conferences organized by the Faculty of Philosophy and Educational Sciences of the University of the Basque Country. However, unlike the previous works, this work deals with a specific issue: the participation of citizens in the creation and development of museums or in the processes of activating or enhancing cultural heritage.
