Considerations on the use of Geographic Information Systems in Anthropology

Given that (a) the development of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) has been cha- racterized by its enormous spread of disciplines and applications, (b) any social fact is developed in conjunction with a specif c territorial or spatial environment and (c) referring to traditional interdis- ciplinary featuring applied anthropology, this paper presents a case for its potential as a tool applied anthropology. To achieve this, are offered examples of their use in dif ferent phases (design and f rst approaches to the f eld of study , analysis and presentation of research results) of research projects developed in the Canaries.
