Abstract

Although the demand for pro-environmental tourism services has increased, it is difficult to predict the purchase behavior of green hotel reservations. We analyzed the influence of attitude, perceived behavioral control and subjective norms on the intention to stay in eco-hotels among Mexican millennial professionals who like traveling, and assessed the importance-performance of each predictor variable on the resulting variable. A quantitative, explanatory, cross-sectional research and a non-probabilistic convenience sample of 385 people was conducted. We analyzed the information with a PLS structural equation model and an importance-performance matrix. The results revealed that all three variables positively influence the intention to stay in eco-hotels, emphasizing the effect of subjective norms, particularly regarding the subject's belief that their social referents, whose opinion is valued and important, will stay in eco-hotels when they travel.
