Resumo

A importância da imagem de destino é amplamente reconhecida pelo seu efeito significativo sobre as intenções comportamentais dos turistas. Como tal, os esforços para construir e/ou melhorar as imagens de destino são fundamentais para o sucesso do desenvolvimento do turismo de destino. Um pré-requisito importante para a melhoria e promoção bem sucedidas da imagem do destino a longo prazo é o conhecimento dos turistas’ percepções dos atributos da imagem do destino. Este artigo exploratório procura obter alguma visão sobre este par- conhecimento estruturado e provocar debates contrastando a imagem projectada de Linz como destino turístico promovida pelos seus decisores políticos com a imagem que os potenciais turistas de Linz têm no contexto da iniciativa europeia, “Capital Cultural da Europa” 2009. O artigo justapõe os re- sultos da pesquisa de monitoramento de imagem de Linz realizada por seus formuladores com os de uma pesquisa exploratória realizada para este estudo. O último foi projetado para capturar os componentes de imagem de Linz realizada por uma amostra conveniente de turistas potenciais nacionais e estrangeiros para Linz.
