Resumo

Garantir um destino seguro é um fator essencial na tomada de decisões dos viajantes, assim como o sucesso de um destino. As crises recentes ameaçaram as percepções de segurança relacionadas com o turismo. Sob tais circunstâncias, imagens negativas de destino podem ser produzidas e as escolhas de destino podem ser alteradas. Assim, a compreensão do efeito das percepções de risco sobre a imagem do destino é um fluxo de pesquisa necessário. Este estudo examinou as percepções dos viajantes afro-americanos sobre a segurança relacionada com os três principais destinos turísticos estaduais nos EUA. Os fatores que influenciaram as percepções de um destino seguro variaram entre os destinos. Consistentemente, porém, a experiência de viagens passadas e a percepção da probabilidade de crise relacionada à saúde foram preditores significativos das percepções de um destino seguro.
