INCLUSION AND GENDER POLICY

PASOS Journal of Tourism and Cultural Heritage adopts a strong commitment to inclusion and gender equality, in line with the principles set out in international instruments such as the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW, 1979) and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), in particular Goal 5 on gender equality. In this regard, an equity-based approach is promoted, ensuring that all people, regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, disability or other conditions, have equal opportunities in accessing, publishing and evaluating content.

In the production and dissemination of knowledge, the use of inclusive and non-sexist language that makes diversity visible and avoids discriminatory bias is encouraged. The use of neutral terms or split terms is recommended when necessary, prioritising clarity and precision in scientific communication. Likewise, the use of expressions that reinforce stereotypes or assume the masculine as the universal norm is discouraged. Regarding the treatment of data in research, it is urged to disaggregate information by sex and gender when relevant, guaranteeing an analysis that takes into account possible structural inequalities and avoids biases in the interpretation of the results.

PASOS promotes equity in the representation of authors, reviewers and editorial board members, striving for gender parity and encouraging the participation of historically underrepresented groups. Reviewers are encouraged to make unbiased assessments, focusing on the scholarly quality of the work and not on the identity of the submitters. In cases of possible bias or discriminatory practices, the journal will establish review and resolution mechanisms, ensuring a respectful and inclusive academic environment. With these guidelines, PASOS reaffirms its commitment to the production of knowledge that contributes to a more just and egalitarian society.
