A importância do turismo sustentável para inverter a tendência da recessão económica e do declínio demográfico das comunidades rurais

Em todo o mundo, verifica-se uma tendência cada vez maior de migração de seres humanos das zonas rurais e, em particular, dos pequenos colonatos para os centros urbanos. A migração para os centros urbanos é mais frequente nos grupos etários de jovens adultos, afectando as indústrias tradicionais, como a agricultura e os serviços associados, e ameaçando assim a sustentabilidade dos colonatos rurais. Em algumas cidades rurais, o declínio da população e da agricultura levou à sua deterioração social e económica. Este artigo apresenta pequenos assentamentos, dois na Itália e dois na Austrália, que alavancaram a localidade de forma muito eficaz para desenvolver uma indústria turística próspera. O estudo fornece uma comparação e uma avaliação dos dados sobre o número de visitantes e as despesas de turismo nestas regiões que demonstram o sucesso e as tendências de crescimento. É mostrado como várias indústrias além do turismo, muitas vezes em conjunto com características únicas ou ativos de uma área criar um cartão de sorteio principal para os turistas. Proporcionando assim importantes benefícios económicos, sociais e ambientais a estas zonas.
