The development of greening skills contributes to the prevention and mitigation of negative impacts on the environment, favouring the sustainability of organisations in the tourism sector. The aim of this paper is to present the validation of a scale grading greening skills and their implementation in organisations in the tourism sector. 39 hotels and 106 restaurant businesses in Tabasco, Mexico agreed to take part in the study. The confirmatory factor analysis gave as a result a fine overall fit for the data of the proposed multidimensional model with the factors of Ecological Knowledge, Ecological Skills and Green Attitudes. Areas of opportunity were identified in the study sample, where the lowest level of competence corresponded to ecological skills. To conclude, the Green Competence Scale may be a valuable support tool for agents within the tourism sector to achieve a better understanding of green skills and to evaluate them correctly in order to better intervene in conservation of the environment.
