Resumo

Volcan Poas National Park (VPNP) é o parque mais visitado da Costa Rica. Suas instalações, acessibilidade e proximidade com as principais cidades do país tornam VPNP um destino preferido para os visitantes locais e estrangeiros. Além de seu cone vulcânico ativo, as trilhas do parque são um recurso principal. As condições extremamente úmidas prevalecentes ao longo do ano e a visitação intensa tornaram essencial determinar as preferências de superfície da trilha Visi- tor para garantir a sustentabilidade da trilha do parque. O objetivo deste estudo foi explorar a viabilidade do uso de fotos em combinação com uma pesquisa regular para identificar o socio- características demográficas e outras variáveis relacionadas com a trilha que afetam a seleção da superfície da trilha para orientar as decisões de gestão e alocação de recursos relacionados ao projeto da trilha, construção e manutenção. O estudo foi realizado em maio, junho e julho de 2005.
