Resumo

Os desenvolvimentos turísticos de massas na década de 1960 permitem o aparecimento de uma classe empreendedora turística local no Mediterrâneo espanhol e nas Ilhas Canárias. Esta nova classe em- prendedora, juntamente com os grossistas europeus e a administração pública franquista, constitu- yen os atores chave no processo econômico que tem comportado implicações econômicas, ambienta- les, sociais e políticas a estas regiões até nossos dias. Complementarmente aos habituais análi- sis econômicos sobre a classe empreendedora turística local, este artigo pretende constituir uma aproxi- mação histórica, política e comparada das condições que ajudaram a criar a empreitada local. Para isso se toma o exemplo, com corantes paradigmáticos, de Maiorca.
