La contribución de la experiencia turística al desarrollo del turismo en los destinos rurales: una revisión de la literatura

Las zonas rurales han adquirido un nuevo dinamismo económico, social y cultural, como resultado, no exclusivamente, pero en gran medida, del desarrollo del turismo. Desde principios del siglo XXI, los destinos han tenido que adaptarse a las nuevas formas de turismo, como el turismo rural, con todas sus ventajas como la pequeña escala y el contacto directo con las comunidades locales, así como los recursos naturales y culturales. Esto se debe al cambio que se ha producido en el comportamiento de los visitantes, que tienden a buscar experiencias en lugar de consumir el lugar. Estos hechos ponen de relieve la importancia de comprender y medir la experiencia turística, así como su impacto en el desarrollo sostenible de los destinos rurales. Así, a partir de una revisión de la literatura relevante de las últimas tres décadas y media, pretendemos entender el estado del arte de las experiencias turísticas y dimensionar los parámetros por los que se miden. Además, intentamos comprender cómo las experiencias turísticas alimentan el desarrollo del turismo en las zonas rurales. Los resultados muestran que las experiencias turísticas significan cosas diferentes para personas diferentes. Las dificultades encontradas en la aplicación de la medición cuantitativa hacen igualmente complicado medir el verdadero impacto de las experiencias turísticas en el desarrollo del turismo en el medio rural.
