Resumo

O artigo apresenta um olhar mútuo do turismo para conhecer não só o turista como a estrela das experiências turísticas, mas também aprender com a experiência do "outro" como coluna vertebral do mesmo fenómeno. A partir de uma revisão da literatura, analisando os papéis dos turistas e dos locais, o artigo tenta explicar à experiência turística, entendida como o processo de encontro sociocultural entre turistas e locais, a partir de uma abordagem antropológica do turismo, já que a diversidade de expressões culturais contribui para enriquecer a experiência de viagem. A abordagem numa visão holística permite conhecer as construções culturais geradas, incluindo as relacionadas com o turismo e como são cruciais tanto para a cultura como para o desenvolvimento turístico da cidade anfitriã, até mesmo compreender a complexidade dos parceiros sociais do turismo, através de um olhar mútuo entre turistas e moradores locais que são afetados e se alimentam mutuamente pelo encontro que produzem.
