Creativity and tourism: a panoramic review of concepts related to creativity in the field of tourism

Abstract

The aim of this article is to make a novel scoping review of the application of the concept of creativity in tourism studies, from the perspective of creative cities, creative economy, creative industries, creative class, creative tourism and creative tourist destination. To this purpose, 102 articles located in SCOPUS, Redalyc, Dialnet and Google Scholar were selected, with the aim of obtaining an overview that allows us to delve deeper into these concepts, beyond the indiscriminate use that is usually made of them; in addition to visualizing what trends are found in research on creativity and tourism, and what topics remain to be addressed. The findings allow us to affirm that, although the creative topic in tourism has been widely explored, it has usually been done from uncritical perspectives, which privilege the use of creative resources and people in order to generate a greater tourist influx.
