Asymmetries in tourism and new strategies: the case of Madeira Island

This study aims to analyze tourism in Madeira Island, emphasizing the differences between the north coast and south coast. With a secular tradition in tourism, this Portuguese Autonomous Region reveals tourism development strategies of several destinations (internal) and emerging products. Firstly, some trends in regional tourism market will be characterized, and secondly, we will describe new strategies concerning tourism related to nature tourism.
