Abstract

In this study we examine the obstacles encountered by persons with physical disabilities during their stay in a hotel. The influence of gender and age was examined.

Forty-one persons with motor disabilities from the Confederation of Disabled Persons of the Province of Alicante participated. We used a questionnaire designed had hoc for the study.

The results indicated that the greatest difficulty for the participants in the hotels is the steps and the staff. Differences were found according to gender and age.

This reveals the existence of obstacles to hotel accessibility for persons with disabilities. These difficulties can be solved with an appropriate willingness on the part of hotel managers.
