Faced with new dynamics and new views of the sociocultural context, this essay seeks to make a brief reflection on the relationship between cultural identities and postmodern visions of tourist territories. The aim it is study the social practice of tourism in articulation with its actors, spaces, appropriations and larger social processes. Likewise, it seeks to question those essentialist conceptions around the concept of cultural identities and their relationship with the tourist territory. Meanwhile, within the field of tourism research, models continue to be replicated where the tourism phenomenon is classified as a predator and trivializer of the local culture. In this way, it is advocated to leave the initial kick towards a complex thought that contemplates the link between the tourist discipline and the so-called cultural geography.
