In this work David Chambers reveals the importance of anthropological work and field research, in each case, the evolution of the tourism industry. Through the narration and analysis of a large number of anthropological investigations on different areas where tourism has made its appearance, the author tries to contextualize the tourist activity in order to deepen in the socioeconomic and cultural effects that this activity may have caused in different areas that have become destination areas, and to analyse the activity itself from its origins to its most novel forms of expression, including all and any persons and entities that are involuted or play an important role in the development of the tourism industry, their relationships, and the multiple forms that the products and images that are offered in the market have adopted and continue to adopt.
