The present article charts the events marking the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, looking at aspects such as the choice of places to represent Europe as chosen by the EU and the various events held in the major European countries with strong presence in the field of Cultural Heritage. Likewise, it offers some examples of emblematic sites of social and political significance that were not given great consideration in the context of the heritage celebrations together with the scarce presence of archaeology in the overall programme.
