Abstract

The social, territorial and economic changes generated by the influence of tourism and migration in the rural space have been the subject of previous studies, but these give minimal attention to local-global dynamics. This article explores this influence in Tafi del Valle, a population in the Northwest of Argentina, based on a qualitative and ethnographic interdisciplinary study that attempts to contribute to the concepts of new mobilities (Sheller & Urry, 2006) and local hybridization (Woods, 2007). The results show the need for novel approaches to analyze the transformations of the rural space and evidence that the "globalization" of these spaces poses possibilities and challenges. It is also argued that the local policies to face the phenomenon reveal a strong lag.
