Resumen

Uno de los aspectos más preocupantes de los estudios culturales, es la falta de casos comparativos para ampliar los horizontes de la micro-sociología. Basado en el suyo, el presente trabajo explora los efectos del aburguesamiento en un barrio, Riverwest en Milwaukee, Wisconsin, EE.UU. Este ensayo-revisión explora el papel de las artes, no sólo como creadoras de una imagen de los barrios, sino como mecanismo para evitar la mercantilización de los espacios. Riverwest nunca ha sido mercantilizado como un producto turístico como muchos otros sitios turísticos. Los conceptos de patrimonio y herencia se ponen bajo la lente del escrutinio en esta investigación. Hasta cierto punto, algunas ciudades son producidas para ser consumidas mientras que otras no, es uno de los puntos intrigantes que esta investigación explora.
