Um dos aspectos mais preocupantes dos estudos culturais, é a falta de casos comparativos para expandir os horizontes da micro-sociologia. Baseado nele, o presente trabalho explora os efeitos da gentrificação em um bairro, Riverwest em Milwaukee, Wisconsin USA. Este ensaio-revisão explora o papel das artes, não apenas como criação de uma imagem dos bairros, mas como um mecanismo para evitar a comoditização dos espaços. Riverwest nunca foi mercantilizado como um produto turístico como muitos outros locais turísticos. O conceito de património e património é colocado sob a lente do escrutínio nesta investigação. Até certo ponto, algumas cidades são produzidas para serem consumidas enquanto outras não, é um dos pontos intrigantes que esta investigação explora.
