Approaching the biocultural heritage of Tlayacapan, Mexico from the perspective of the anthropology of tourism

The main objective of this article is to reflect on some of the most relevant approaches to the biocultural heritage of Tlayacapan from the perspective of the anthropology of tourism. This perspective is based on an ethnographic method that seeks to address the system of values, practices and strategies managed by all the social actors involved in tourism activities. From the standpoint of the anthropology of tourism, we propose the possibility of understanding the complex interaction between hosts, intermediaries, and tourists with the region's vast heritage. In this sense, the biocultural heritage of the area not only engages in dialogue with the various social actors involved but also serves as an active arena of tensions, disputes and social participation. Likewise, readers will observe that tourism dynamics in Tlayacapan are neither unequivocal nor homogeneous; rather, there are controversies and contradictions in the ways that tourism shapes the social life of the local population.
