Perfis pré-pandêmicos e a construção da imagem dos turistas na ilha de Santa Cruz, Galápagos

As Ilhas Galápagos, declaradas Património Natural da Humanidade pela UNESCO, são celebradas pela sua biodiversidade única e pelo seu papel fundamental na economia local através do turismo. No início, os principais visitantes eram ecoturistas com um profundo interesse pela natureza. No entanto, com o passar do tempo, o crescimento do turismo de massa mudou o perfil dos visitantes. Inquirimos visitantes da ilha de Santa Cruz antes da pandemia da COVID-19 para explorar como o ecoturismo evoluiu desde as suas origens nas décadas de 1960 e 1970. Os nossos objetivos foram: (1) examinar o perfil, os imaginários e as formas de experiência dos visitantes e (2) analisar esses perfis no contexto dos primeiros ecoturistas. Identificámos três perfis de visitantes alto, moderado e baixo com base na consciência e no interesse ambiental. As nossas descobertas destacam que o turismo atual é direcionado principalmente para aqueles que demonstram menor interesse pela natureza. Estas observações são valiosas para os responsáveis pela tomada de decisões, operadores turísticos e académicos, com o objetivo de melhorar as estratégias de gestão e o fluxo de visitantes, especialmente nas zonas urbanas de Santa Cruz.
