Fatores de competitividade e desempenho do turismo: uma análise multi-regional

O objetivo deste artigo é identificar os fatores de competitividade turística com maior poder explicativo no desempenho das cinco áreas geográficas estabelecidas pelo WEF (Europa e Eurásia, Ásia-Pacífico, Américas, Medio Oriente e Norte de África e África Subsahariana), permitindo que esses fatores prevejam, simultaneamente, o número de chegadas de turistas internacionais e as receitas daí provenientes. Para atingir este objetivo, partimos de uma amostra inicial de 141 países, agrupados nas áreas geográficas acima referidas e das respectivas pontuações obtidas no TTCI, por forma a, ulteriormente, se poderem aplicar diferentes técnicas estatísticas, incluindo a Partial Least Square Regression (PLS). Os fatores com maior capacidade de previsão são: natureza, cultura, infra-estruturas, sustentabilidade ambiental e segurança e proteção.
