The article analyses the potential of social tourism enterprises to promote women’s empowerment. It examines the relationship between women's participation in these enterprises and their ability to negotiate power dynamics at work and at home. The findings detail how women's participation in craft tourism social enterprises fosters an ongoing process of self-esteem enhancement, network building and awareness of their capabilities. These processes have helped them navigate domineering relationships in the household related to spousal control, disproportionate burden of domestic work and physical abuse. Despite the positive dynamics, the women interviewed work in a slow-growing, low-wage, feminised industry. Moreover, they continue to face gender norms both on and off the job and carry a double burden at home.
