Some circumstances impacting the tourism sector have negatively affected its population and economy. Destinations usually apply some planning and governance policies based on tourism sustainability in order to solve them. Although business management has
recently advanced, the question still remains of how to better manage its human resources in order to mitigate these limitations. As a main issue, previous research was analysed to detect issues relating to planning, impacts, sustainability, the hotel sector, human resources, and competence training. A content analysis was carried out with data from Dialnet; Redalyc; RIE; Scopus and Wos. The results showed some impact related to the planning and sustainability of the sector, the importance of improvement experienced in its business management, and the relative shortage of skills required in the labour markets. This was proposed as a baseline for an efficient management of human resources to train in competences to ensure the continuous supply of skilled workers.
