Abstract

Commissioned by the author to review this work, this review emerges as an attempt to contribute to what scientists call tourism sociology.

Since its inception, the Olympic Games have generated a strong gravitation in Greek cities, not only in political life but also in other issues related to daily life. Originally, these kinds of games had a deterrent nature by preventing all cities from fighting each other. The winner of the games exercises not only admiration in his own people, but fear in other cities. For this reason, Greek cities invested time and money in the preparation of their athletes. The winner’s aura exhibits a fortress that is both symbolic and dissuasive in terms of a potential war or attack
