This work by Frances Brown, first published in 1998, represents an attempt to locate tourism within the current global political economy and investigate its effects (on both hosts and tourists) in this context. The author, as she states at the beginning, approaches the study of tourism partly as a journalist and editor, but also as a student of international relations. Before tackling this book it is important to bear these aspects in mind since, as the reader will notice, they mark the exhibition developed in the work, its subject matter and the organization of the same throughout several chapters.
