INTRODUCTION
UTAD (University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro) – the public university of northern inland Portugal – is hosting the 6th International Congress on the Sociology and Anthropology of Tourism, which will take place in Vila Real (Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro, Portugal), from 15 to 18 June 2027. This event will bring together 200 participants from around the world, particularly from Ibero-America (Spain, Portugal, Latin America, etc.), to discuss aspects of tourism from the perspectives of anthropology and sociology, in dialogue with other disciplines and fields of knowledge. The conference enables participants to strengthen and expand the SOCANTUR network, and offers students and early-career researchers the opportunity to present and discuss their work with more experienced researchers. The conference also serves as a platform to introduce participants to the inland regions of northern Portugal, thereby promoting their tourism potential. Papers and presentations may be submitted and delivered in any Ibero-American language (Portuguese, Spanish, Catalan, Galician, Basque, Quechua, etc.), including indigenous or native languages (provided a brief translation into Portuguese, Spanish or English is included), as well as in English.
