Resumo

O foco da pesquisa sobre a sustentabilidade do turismo comunitário rural na Jamaica muitas vezes gravita em direção aos componentes econômicos, ambientais, políticos e de gestão. Este estudo etnográfico explora como dois grupos distintos - os Maroons de Charles Town, descendentes de resistentes da escravidão e os alemães de Seaford Town, descendentes de trabalhadores contratados da Alemanha estão a explorar a sua cultura através do turismo comunitário rural para criar novos fluxos de subsistência. A discussão oferece insights únicos sobre como o conceito de conectividade cultural horizontal e vertical pode adicionar a uma compreensão de como os habitantes locais estão desenhando em seu passado para gerar intangíveis e tangíveis produtos de turismo cultural. Destaca ainda os significados que a cultura tem para os habitantes rurais em relação ao sentido de lugar, identidade e desenvolvimento do turismo comunitário rural sustentável.
