Approach and Scope
From an inter and transdisciplinary perspective, the journal solicits and encourages writings from the social sciences, humanities and administrative-business practice linked to the tourism system. Its objective is to fulfil the role of a forum for the presentation and discussion of methodologies and theories, as well as the dissemination of studies and experiences. It aims to contribute to other efforts to understand tourism and to make progress in the various forms of prevention of undesirable effects, but also to improve the way in which tourism complements the improvement and development of the quality of life of the residents of the destination areas.
Sections and peer review process
PASOS. Journal of Tourism and Cultural Heritage (ISSN 1695-7121), www.pasosonline.org, distributes the papers received according to their content into Articles (5000 - 9000 words), Opinions and essays (3000 - 5000 words), Research notes (3000 - 9000 words), From the company (maximum 9000 words), Event reports (maximum 9000 words), Review of publications (2000 - 5000 words). The word count limitation includes title, abstract, content, tables, graphs, bibliography and any other section.
For papers included in the Articles section, it is recommended to use the structure of introduction, literature review, methodology, results and discussion, conclusions and bibliography. These papers should report original research results. If applicable, such research should include in its source data the gender identification of the informants or participants, as well as the use of inclusive language in the writing of the texts submitted to the journal.
The submission of papers is done through the Open Journal System platform via ojs.pasosonline.org, complying with the style guidelines (specified in the section For Authors à Style Guide). All correspondence and auditable traceability of the editorial review and production process will be carried out in the unique registration form created when the submission is made.
In order to be approved for publication, original and unpublished works will be reviewed following the "double-blind" peer review system, which guarantees the anonymity of authors and reviewers throughout the process. Once the submission has been received, the Editorial Committee will carry out an initial verification of compliance with the journal's focus, scientific quality and style standards. The result of this process will be the acceptance or rejection to start the evaluation process by external peers. If the process is initiated, a responsible editor will be assigned who will continue with the following phases of evaluation (you can find the details of the process in the section For Authors --> Review process).
Frequency of publication
PASOS Journal of Tourism and Cultural Heritage publishes four regular issues per year, coinciding with the months of January, April, June and October. The reception of papers is permanently open.
Special issues will be published on a discretionary basis, generally at the request of editors and/or researchers upon presentation of an editorial project and approval by the PASOS Board. These special issues will strictly follow the same editorial standards, including double blind peer review.
Open access policy
PASOS. Revista de Turismo y Patrimonio Cultural, is an open access publication with no embargo period, which means that all contents are available openly and free of charge for use by users or their institutions. Users can read, download (no registration required), distribute, print or link to the full texts of issues and articles, without permission from the editors or authors. That is, the BOAI definition of open access applies. There are also no publication charges (APCs), which apply to the entire editorial process. PASOS is published under a Creative Commons BY NC ND licence.
Anti-plagiarism policy
PASOS Journal of Tourism and Cultural Heritage applies an anti-plagiarism policy that aims to guarantee the originality of all published texts. Turnitin, a specialised software, is used for this purpose. This policy makes it possible to ensure standards of originality in this journal and to detect coincidences and similarities between the texts submitted for publication and those previously published in other sources. If plagiarism is detected, the manuscript will be rejected for publication.
Ethical and publication malpractice statement
The publication of research and methodological papers after double blind peer review is the essential model of our journal "PASOS Journal of Tourism and Cultural Heritage".
Our ethical rules are based on COPE's Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.
The editor and deputy editors of PASOS are responsible for deciding which of the articles submitted to the journal will be published. The editor and deputy editors may be guided by the policies of the journal's Editorial Board and Scientific Board and constrained by current legal requirements, such as those concerning libel, copyright infringement and plagiarism. The editor may consult with other editors or reviewers in making this decision. An editor should always evaluate manuscripts for their intellectual content without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnicity, nationality, or the political philosophy of the authors. The editor and all editorial staff should not disclose information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, other editorial advisors, and the section editor, if applicable.
Disclosure and conflict of interest: Unpublished materials contained in a submitted manuscript must not be used by any member of the editorial staff for their own research without the express written consent of the author.
PASOS reviewers assist editors in making the decision to publish a submitted manuscript. Reviewers are obliged to treat the manuscript received for review confidentially and should not use information obtained through peer review as a personal advantage. Reviewers should not consider declining to review manuscripts where they have a conflict of interest with any of the authors, companies or institutions associated with the paper. Reviews should be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author(s) is inappropriate. Referees should express their views clearly, with supporting arguments. Reviewers, where appropriate, should identify relevant published work on the topic that has not been cited by the authors. Any claim that an observation, derivation, or argument has been used previously in other works should be accompanied by a citation. Any reviewer or reader can and should bring to the editor's attention any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript in question and any other published paper of which they are aware.
All persons listed as authors must meet certain requirements in order to receive this designation. Each author must have participated to a sufficient degree to assume public responsibility for the content of the work. One or more authors must be responsible or accountable for the entire work, from the beginning of the work until the article has been published. In order for someone to be given credit as an author, it must be based solely on their essential contribution to: 1) the conception and design of the study, or the collection of the data, or the analysis and interpretation of the data; 2) the drafting of the article or the critical revision of a substantial part of its intellectual content; and 3) the final approval of the version to be published. Requirements 1, 2 and 3 must be fulfilled simultaneously. Participation solely in fundraising or data collection or general supervision of the research group does not justify authorship. Journal editors may ask authors to describe the involvement of each author and this information may be published. Contributors other than the authors should be cited in the acknowledgements section. Increasingly, multicentre trials are being conducted that are attributed to a corporate author. In these cases, all group members listed as authors must fully satisfy the above authorship criteria. Group members who do not meet these criteria should be listed, with their permission, in the acknowledgements section. The order of authorship will depend on the joint decision of the co-authors. In any case, the authors must be able to explain it. Authors should ensure that they have written original works. When authors use materials that are not their own, sources must be properly cited.
Any attempt at plagiarism will be followed by rejection of the submitted manuscript. Authors should not submit the same paper or describe essentially the same research to more than one journal. Submission of the same manuscript to more than one journal constitutes unethical behaviour for publication, unless otherwise specified.
Fundamental Errors in Published Works: When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in his/her own published work, it is the author's obligation to promptly notify the journal editor or publisher and to cooperate with the editor in retracting or correcting the document.
