Abstract

The present study aims to analyze how the Photovoice methodology, derived from visual anthropology, can be used in the identification of endogenous tourist resources, based on a diagnosis focused on the gaze and perspective of the local residents of two districts located on the northern coast of the state of Rio Grande do Norte, Brazil. To this end, the experiences experienced by the authors were reported, showing results that show that Photovoice has fulfilled the role of identifying tourism potentialities, as well as proved to be a tool for valuing local culture, through the recognition and appropriation of the images captured. It was also found that the methodology contributes to the development of a proactive and entrepreneurial attitude in small localities. It has therefore proved to be a pertinent methodology for use at an early stage in the development process of community-based tourism.
