The objective of this study was to build the capacity to observe and reflect on the way in which projects are carried out by the administration of the city of Manaus as they pertain to the community of São João Lago do Tupé, in the Tupé Sustainable Development Reserve (REDES), and how they influence positively or negatively family business endeavors, as well as how they influence commerce and tourism. In October of (2005) field work was conducted in the community of São João Lago do Tupé which included a survey soliciting responses of local residents on socio-demographic, economic, and tourism aspects. 43,33% of interviewed described trash and pollution consequences of tourism.
