Shows and cultural performances in tourism: reflections on the bumba-meu-boi in São Luis, Maranhão (Brazil)

This article examines the process of revitalization of cultures from the development of cultural tourism. Where the object of study, the Bumba-meu-boi in São Luis, Maranhao, discusses the major changes brought about in this play from its incorporation into the circuit of cultural production and consumption. Based on studies of performance and restoration of behavior, it is understood that the cultural events, like the Valley Celebrate event, consist of renovations on the identities of other contexts and social spaces, and incorporating in this new meanings.
