In 2017, the rise of tourism phobia became a star topic in public discussion, especially during the summer period. This paper investigates this phenomenon by identifying and exploring the fundamental discourses produced in the media. For this purpose, a sample of 40 news items published in different newspapers is analyzed. The aim of the study is to clarify the true potential of the concept as a heuristic tool to guide tourism research. Taking this idea as a starting point, the present work aims to contribute to the elaboration of an analytical framework from which to think, define and guide the study of tourism phobia.
