Resumen

Guimarães ha hecho un gran esfuerzo en la promoción del turismo, posicionándose como un destino turístico urbano y cultural. Esta estrategia se basa en el patrimonio histórico de la ciudad, que es patrimonio de la humanidad de la UNESCO desde 2001, y en la promoción de eventos como la Capital Europea de la Cultura (CEC) en 2012. La nueva imagen creada para Guimarães ha definido un nuevo estilo de vida para sus residentes al colocar el turismo y la cultura en la vanguardia de una nueva estrategia de desarrollo. Este estudio examina las razones subyacentes de las decisiones de viaje de la población del municipio de Guimarães, investigando sus motivaciones turísticas de empuje y atracción. El estudio también analiza el papel que desempeñan importantes variables sociodemográficas en la determinación de las motivaciones de viaje de los residentes de este municipio. El análisis empírico se realizó a partir de cuestionarios administrados en 2012 a los residentes de Guimarães. Los resultados muestran que el género, la edad y la educación marcan la diferencia en cuanto a las motivaciones para viajar.
