Resumen

Las investigaciones sobre la sostenibilidad del turismo rural comunitario en Jamaica suelen centrarse en los componentes económico, ambiental, político y de gestión. Este estudio etnográfico explora cómo dos grupos distintivos - los cimarrones de Charles Town, descendientes de combatientes de la resistencia a la esclavitud y los alemanes de Seaford Town, descendientes de trabajadores contratados de Alemania - están explotando su cultura a través del turismo rural comunitario para crear nuevas fuentes de sustento. La discusión ofrece una visión única de cómo el concepto de conectividad cultural horizontal y vertical puede contribuir a comprender cómo los lugareños están aprovechando su pasado para generar productos intangibles y tangibles del turismo cultural. Además, destaca los significados que la cultura tiene para los habitantes de las zonas rurales en relación con el sentido del lugar, la identidad y el desarrollo del turismo rural comunitario sostenible.
