Resumen

La artesanía es una actividad que puede ser analizada en sus dimensiones histórica, económica, social, cultural y ambiental. Está ligado al turismo, por lo que tiene un gran potencial para generar ingresos para la región que lo desarrolla. Teniendo en cuenta este aspecto, podemos decir que se trata de una actividad en línea con las estrategias/alternativas de desarrollo local. Para ello, este artículo pretende analizar el papel del turismo cultural en la isla de Santiago, tomando como caso de estudio la artesanía. El objetivo principal es analizar cómo el turismo puede contribuir a la preservación y mejora de la artesanía en la isla de Santiago y también analizar la relación entre el turismo, la cultura y la contribución de la comunidad local en la preservación de los conocimientos culturales tradicionales de la isla. Se utilizó un análisis cualitativo complementado con un análisis cuantitativo de la colección de 120 cuestionarios aplicados a los ciudadanos y artesanos de Santiago.
